I guess with all of this going on its no shock that I ended up getting sick. At first I just tried to ignore it, as though pretending I wasn't experiencing it would make it go away. Then, I tried to get classes covered so I could rest, but that's always more challenging than you think it will be. Turns out, people are almost universally busy. So, I had to work through and do my best, one day with no voice, another day with coughs and aches, and so on.
At this point, I still feel an awareness of my complaints, but I'm afraid to declare myself, all better. I'm still ingesting grand quantities of zinc and vitamin c and tea, still using the neti pot, and inhaling eucalyptus steam, taking oil of oregano, gargling with warm salt water and turmeric. I'm doing all the things my mom taught me to really.
Feeling ill not only feels well, awful, but it messes with your appetite as well. I've been eating a lot of soups and stews the past few days. Sadly, I don't have any greater recipes to share with you in that regard. What I do have however, is a little recipe for a super immune boosting juice. I'm hoping that a few glasses of this will exorcise the last of my complaints and sniffles. This juice is not messing around, it's serious stuff. Anytime a juice recipe calls for garlic, you know it's not just your everyday fun happy time juice, it means business.
Kung-flu fighting juice
What you'll need
2 apples, cored and quartered
2 kiwis, skins removed
2 lemons, peeled
Fresh ginger root, apx 2 inch long piece with skin
2-3 cloves garlic
1 cup chopped kale
What you do
Run everything through your juicer. The order I put everything through was: apples, kiwis and lemons, ginger, kale and garlic and then finished up with carrots.
Drink immediately! The garlic is crazy strong, but just do it! Your immune system, will thank you!
As a side note, I did in fact smell like garlic for the rest of the day. This juice would be a great vampire repellent!
If you're wanting something less....potent...you could always omit the garlic.
