One shift that we made in our household several years ago was moving away from paper napkins or paper towels as napkins, to washable, reusable, cloth napkins. Clearly, cloth napkins are a much more environmentally responsible option. With just a small initial investment, you can get yourself set up, and have a little fun in the process. Play with different colors, textures and materials, buy locally, launder regularly.
Depending on your preferred mode of shopping great places to look for cloth napkins would be Etsy, Cost Plus World Market, Heath Ceramics, or Kellygreen Home.
If you're more of a do-it-yourself type of person I've even found instructions for making your own cloth napkins over on Apartment Therapy-check it out!
Over time as some of your napkins wear out, you can always re-purpose them as cleaning and dusting cloths!
As a side note, I've noticed that taking a bit more care in setting our table positively influences our relationship with food. When we actually take the time to set the table, lay down napkins, decorate with flowers, and put down our devices, our awareness, our gratitude, the amount of prana we receive from our dining experience increases.
Much love and Namaste,
